Here's a great place to put a random quote or random post title.

Imelda’s new line

Imelda MarcosThe fact that her country was in poverty while she was stylin’ and profilin’ notwithstanding, Imelda Marcos gave an entirely new meaning to “shoe fetish.”

THe 77-year-old grandmother and widow of Ferdinand Marcos wants to now make a name for herself a little more high up on your body, your neck (and other parts).

Marcos is starting a fashion line of jewelry and accessories called “The Imelda Collection.” The launch is planned for 18 November.

According to reports, items in the line will be priced between US$20 and US$100.

Karl’s mixin’, Linda’s writin’ and Jody’s back

I’ve never thought of Karl Lagerfeld as being adept at throwing down on the wheels of steel. Wouldn’t the fan get in the way? In any case, if you’ve got a hankering for Siouxsie and the Banshees, Black Mountain or Super Furry Animals (there’s a joke somewhere with that last one), then check out Vogue Presents Karl Lagerfeld: My Favorite Songs. You can find the compilation over at Amazon.com. The CD will be released 17 November.

Also in the moonlighting department, Linda Wells’, Allure: Confessions of a Beauty Editor is out this month. Wells is the founding editor of Allure.com. According to the Amazon description, the book offers “essential makeup techniques, sidebars, expert tips, emergency fixes and information on how to get the best products for your money.”

I checked out the reviews and it seems that if you’re a subscriber to Allure, the book may have some repeated information from the mag. But, if you’re into Wells’ writing style, you may want to jump on this one for the entertainment value.

And guess who’s ready to wreck shop, Jody Watley (swoon). Watley has just released The Makeover which I’ve yet to listen to, but I’ll be doggone if she doesn’t look as if she has aged at all. I mean, good lord, look at her! I consider myself somewhat of an expert in spotting who has been under the knife and, unless I’m losing my eye, Watley ain’t been touched.

On her myspace page, Watley has a lot of info on what she’s been up to over the past few years. She also toots her own horn, which I love strong, beautiful women to do:

“Beyond my music, Ive made an impact in pop culture and represented the future possibilities of an artist - a black one at that - with regard to the relationship between music and fashion. I was the first black woman and artist to launch a major fashion magazine SPUR in Japan! You can also add my ..1 workout video Dance to Fitness to my list of achievements. Im not tooting my own horn - I can hear some of you now - just pointing out overlooked facts.”

And there ain’t a damned thing wrong with doing that.

Tom Ford online

tom fordFormer Gucci chief director Tom Ford (finally) has a website. The new venture features information on Ford’s eyewear line, his upcoming menswear collection and his new fragrance, Tom Ford Black Orchid. The site describes the scent as having “rich dark accords” and an “alluring potion of black orchids and sultry woods.”

Eventually, according to news reports, Ford plans to have an online shop.

“I think it is important to always address and use the primary media of one’s time and we all have to face the fact that there is no more powerful media than the Internet,” Women’s Wear Daily quoted Ford as saying. “It is how most of us communicate, get our news, entertain ourselves, and increasingly shop.”

WWD reported that the fragrance line would also feature a hair perfume, cleansing oils and hydrating emulsion. According to the industry journal, the line is expected to garner around US$40 million in its first year alone.

I’m not really sure about the difference between perfume and hair perfume though.

Ford also plans “directly owned” stores in New York, London, Milan and Hong Kong. No word yet on Zurich (hmph). And if that’s not keeping him busy, he also plans to launch his menswear collection in April 2007.

No wonder he has stubble all the time. He doesn’t sleep.

Pantene update

Since I posted my review of Pantene’s Relaxed and Natural line I have received quite a few messages about its poor quality. Please read the last comment of the post. If you’re interested the investigating a class-action suit, please contact Nia.
